Year one in Review

One week from today, my little baby will turn one year old! I can hardly believe he is going to be one already–how the months have flown!! I have loved the joys and challenges of motherhood and sought to savor every stage.  It is such an odd feeling: I absolutely love Jeshuah just as he is at this very moment in life, and at the same time, I am thrilled to see him growing up! Putting away baby clothes is bittersweet–he has outgrown some, but is growing into others! And I love both.

Two weeks early, Jeshuah weighed in at 8 lbs. and 19  inches. Boy, was I glad he didn’t hybernate any longer! Since I think average birth weight is 7 lbs, we assumed he would always be on the bigger side.  But for the last 6 months, his weight and height have put him squarely in the 10th percentile range. Meaning he is smaller than 90 percent of babies his age.  This continues to be an amusing point, though, as his cheeks and dimensions give him appearance of being a fat and chunky baby and people assume he is big for his age. Nope, just short and stout:-)

Favorite Toys: Plastic donuts, anything round that he can make spin, anything he can climb on/over (see picture)

Favorite Books: The Eye Book, Mr. Brown Can Moo, The Big Red Barn, Goodnight Moon, Gossie books

Favorite Foods: Bread and meat. What can I say? He is our child:-)

Nicknames of Choice: People always asked us what we were going to call Jeshuah for short.  Well, we call him Shuah for short, but to me, nicknames are simply born out of the moment. So here are a bunch of little names that get tossed around our house on a daily basis: Little Buddy, Sweetie Peetie, Silly Goose, Goosey, Goose Down Owens, Little Bitty Goose, any variation of “goose” really, Stinkweed/bug, Fatty, Fatty-mc-Fat-Fatterson. (See why do nicknames have to be “for short”? Mine are usually “for long” 🙂

Number of teeth: 8

Personality: These last few months have been especially filled with laughter. Jehsuah is at a very fun and interactive stage.  He literally makes me laugh most of the time he is awake.  He is such a sweet-tempered baby.  He loves to play with his toys, read stories, go to the store, and make hysterical “monkey noises” as his eyes grow wide and he looks around. When we take him out with us, he loves to make people look at him and laugh.  He has yet to have any separation anxiety and is very personable. He started throwing little tantrums around 8 months, particularly if you take his toys away for naptime or potty. Poor, deprived child:-) You can definitely tell what he likes and does not like!

I intend to do a series of posts looking back over this year. Stay tuned!
